The One with the Postponed Wedding

Jessy & Kevin's Couple Session by VISUEL PROJECT

Jean-Luc Godard once said, sometime reality is too complex, stories give it form. To illustrate a reality, I epitomeze it in a story. I believe Kevin and I are not alone, convincing ourselves that everything is going to be alright. From my side, like I said before and will always say it in the future, he always makes the hardest easier to pass through. This is one of many stories when a global pandemic taught us an important lesson in life: making a story that lights hope.

Recent days are a mess. Newspaper front pages write everything about the virus. From 70000 Indonesians could be infected with COVID-19, taking preventive measures in COVID-19 fight, task force issues call for 4000 more medical workers, several industries hit hardest by the virus, to stop Idul Fitri exodus to decrease the spreading. It reminds me to one novel by Albert Camus that was first published in 1957, entitled The Plague, he wrote “What does it mean, the plague? It’s life, that’s all.” Maybe this is life, remind us not to take our loved ones for granted, to cherish life and pull together facing never-ending defeat, to rebel against all the worst scenarios, finding optimism in times of hopelessness. Alain the Botton in his article on New York Times called it ‘A Tragicomic Redemption,’ a softening of the heart, a turning away from judgement and moralising to joy and gratitude.

'Love in the Time of Corona’ describes well how enormous burden is somehow put on our shoulders. However, both of us learn to get to know better how to cope with great deal of uncertainty, panic, and anxiety, that drops us an insight how we can find ourselves eventually. The realisation is not only about us, but as well as for both families, both circle of friends, and the most pleasant is we understand to go beyond this hardships, we need everyone, we need communities of outsiders to help each other to flatten the curve. When it comes to help each other, it is not only us, but everyone. It is called ‘collective resilience’.

Apparently, COVID-19 becomes a wedding crasher for most of us. The spread of virus forces some to postpone their weddings. With a heavy heart, we regret to inform all our beloved friends that our wedding must be delayed to an unspecified time, both for holy matrimony and wedding reception, to slow the spread of virus. It is a tough decision and challenging situation, but we believe it is the wisest. We will be reaching out to everyone individually and will let everyone know once we have more details. So, this is my story, back to Jean-Luc Godard’s quote: “No drama so perilous or magnetic. No detail can make our love pathetic.”

As Kevin and I always believe, Amor Vincit Omnia, love conquers all.

It will work the same, this time.

With Love,
Jessy and Kevin
