Letters to Sartre

I feel like reposting letters from de Beauvoir to Sartre that written on her book, Letters to Sartre. That is so beautiful I wanted those to be mine.
You’re my strength, my ethics, and all I have that’s good. And I love you even more passionately than I thought. I didn’t think I’d find your absence so harrowing, but I do. Not because I need anyone — I don’t feel lonely or abandoned — but because I want you.—  Simone de Beauvoir, from Letters To Sartre
I need nothing but you and a bit of freedom.”—  Simone de Beauvoir, from Letters To Sartre
I’m so overwhelmed by your love that I feel an agonizing happiness within — you know, one of those moments of happiness that would make up for a whole year of gloom and tears.
—  Simone de Beauvoir, from Letters To Sartre

I just wrote all this, and then suddenly it came to me — I understood: more or less, with difficulty or not, I shall see you, I shall see you, I’ll fall asleep beside you, I’ll wake up beside you, I’ll walk through Paris holding your little arm and we’ll talk for hours, and hours, and there’ll be a long, long time for us. I find it pleasing, actually, so absurdly to rediscover that kind of anguish for you — o yourself, my absolute, my life — for you, my other self. I kiss you passionately, and love you boundlessly.

—  Simone de Beauvoir, from Letters To Sartre
When I’m with you, nothing seems terrible to me, not even leaving you. But away from you, the slightest fear is unbearable. I love you passionately — I’m empty and miserable without you. […] I love you, with a touch of tragedy and quite madly.
—  Simone de Beauvoir, from a letter to Jean-Paul Sartre
But I miss you to the point of anguish. I’d like to see you and have you to myself — just to myself — for a long, long while.
—  Simone de Beauvoir, from Letters To Sartre

You’re within me — in every thought, every word, every act.
—  Simone de Beauvoir, from Letters To Sartre

I’ll never tell you enough what you are for me.
—  Simone de Beauvoir, Letters To Sartre
